Welcome to the USS Balam
Set in the waning years of the 24th century, the USS Balam glides quietly along the fringes of known space, where sensor logs end in contradictions and official reports are sealed behind thick layers of classification. A Diligent class starship refit for the unknown, Balam is not sent to chart stars nor broker peace; Balam is dispatched when reality itself begins to falter.
Under the command of Commander Marius Ragel in a joint operation between Division 12 and Division 14, the USS Balam investigates phenomena that defy any conventional explanation: when voices carry through silent subspace, when vessels are erased from history but not from memory, and when regions of space that seem to observe those who enter them, the specialists aboard the USS Balam are requested. Each mission is a descent into the unanswerable, where strange really is part of the job.
Aboard the starship Balam, the line between the rational and the implausible is not dismissed. We study, contain, and pursue answers . The crew are not explorers in the traditional sense. They are specialists in the abnormal, witnesses and interpreters of a universe that is stranger than Starfleet doctrine ever prepared them for.

Arel had never particularly objected to medical examinations.
She objected to waiting for medical examinations, which was a different problem entirely. There were only so many times a person could read the same transfer orders while pretending not to notice that Sickbay was three decks closer to the classified laboratory section than her quarters were. The Balam had an irritating habit of putting interesting things just within peripheral vision.
Still, the physical had to be done. Host baseline, symbiont baseline, confirmation that Vey remained exactly where Vey was supposed to be and that neither of them had developed anything medically…

Directly following the meeting with Vice Admiral Kitan, Commander Herrington made her way to the docking port where the USS Balam was currently stationed. A frigate that had been given a few upgrades and tweaks to fit their mission parameters “overseen by Division Twelve, no doubt” Catherine said with a slight smile as she entered the empty turbo lift and went back to looking over the specifications and deck listing of the Diligent-class USS Balam . Marius did not know a single thing about what he was walking into other than a new assignment awaited him, but he suspected that Catherine Harrington, a Doctor evidently were going to be seeing a lot of each other. "I take this is about my new assignment" he stated.
"Both of yours," Kitan replied. "Doctor Harrington will serve as your Ship's Chief Physician, and as your First Officer."
